Stealing is the name of the game.
One Up! takes a nimble mind, as everyone tries to be the first person to make a word from the tiles that are face-down in the center. Take turns flipping one tile over at a time: first an "A", then an "R" and then a "T". Shout it out, and don't be shy–"ART!"
Keep turning over tiles one at a time until another word of three or more letters can be made.
But wait a sec! The game has a cool, cutthroat twist: any player's words can be stolen by anyone else by simply adding a letter. If an "M" is turned over, and since you already have the word "ART", I can call out "MART" and take it from you. It's my word now, so pound sand. But anyone can snatch it back if an "S" is flipped over and they yell out "SMART." Damn!
All words are in play at all times. The player with the most words at the end wins.

I lost by 4 points last night and I am pissed. I will try to claw my way back up without leaving too much blood spatter on the walls. No matter how long the game takes.
p.s. Love the game but find some folks don't adapt to it as well as others.
I gave this game to my friend for the holidays. A big family who love word games. They loved it!
Intriguing game where the quickest on the draw (of forming words, that is) has the advantage. I love stealing other players words! Who knew I had this hidden in me? Once I told a young (20-something) player they had to be "ruthless" they started grabbing words and making new ones. This game is fun, but not for the timid!
You're absolutely right, Holly, One Up! is a ton of fun but it isn't for the timid!
It has a simple premise, but so challenging. It’s loads of fun for people who like word games. Players share the tableau, so there is not much reliance on luck. Five Stars!
